About us

The Centre provides dedicated studio space for the students to learn and grow as performers.

The Avril Earl Dance & Theatre Centre

In September 2016, we moved from the Les Vauxbelets site to new larger premises in the St Andrew’s Community Centre. The new building enables us to offer classes in 3 spacious, modern and well equipped studios. It is also the only Channel Islands dance school with its very own Studio Theatre, where we have put on productions such as The Worst Witch and The Nutcracker in recent years.

The building was officially opened by the Bailiff of Guernsey, Sir Richard Collas, on Friday 9th September 2016. The premises gives us more than 5,000 sq ft of space, of which 3,500 sq ft is dedicated teaching areas.

As well as offering the largest dedicated dance and drama studios in the Channel Islands we also have a fantastic Dance Shop offering the full range of uniform and shoes for all genres of dance as well as Pineapple Dance wear, Ballet Rosa and Prima. We have a comfortable and welcoming reception and waiting area for parents.

The Lesley Blondel Studio

This is our largest teaching and performing space and features a sprung Harlequin Cascade floor, Harlequin fixed and portable ballet barres, mirrors and a powerful and flexible sound system. The space benefits from high ceilings and plenty of natural light.

Miss Avril taught for Mrs Blondel at the Lesley Blondel School of Dance for many years before taking over as Principal of the school in 2006.

In recent years, we have invested in the development of this space as a Studio Theatre and have installed flexible and removable raked seating, lighting rig, and a theatre grade sound system. This in-house theatre has hosted productions such as The Nutcracker, The Worst Witch and many cabaret and junior shows.

The Margaret Gaudion Studio

Our second largest teaching space can be used for all types of dance and drama classes, but is ideally suited to ballet as it has the longest length of ballet barres. It also features a sprung Harlequin Cascade floor, Harlequin fixed ballet barres, mirrors and a flexible sound system. Margaret was Principal of her own school until 1990 when she passed it on to one of her teachers, Lesley Blondel. It was during Margaret’s time as Principal that Miss Avril joined the school.

The Hazel Rowe Studio

This studio is primarily used by our younger dancers, for coaching classes, singing and private lessons. It also has Harlequin Cascade floor and mirrors and sound system.

Hazel Rowe was Miss Avril’s first dance teacher. It was Hazel who introduced her to the stage and ignited in her a passion for acting and musical theatre. When Hazel retired and closed her school, Miss Avril moved to the Margaret Gaudion School of Dancing.

The move to much larger premises also allows us to offer a fully stocked dance shop.
